Our Mission Statement
The Women of B’nai Israel, an affiliate of Women of Reform Judaism, is the collective voice of women in our congregation. We are a diverse, multi-generational organization providing opportunities to serve Congregation B’nai Israel and the larger community through learning, social action, worship and programming.
A Message From Our New President
My name is Sandy Lee and I feel so honored to serve as the incoming President of the Women of B’nai Israel (WBI). I know it will require a lot of hard work and dedication on my part for the next two years. I look at the women who’ve held this position in the past and feel blessed to stand among them. I want to thank them for their leadership and guidance and their continued support of WBI. Our success as we move forward is built on the foundation they created for our sisterhood in the past.
The Women of B’nai Israel is active throughout the year in our congregation, the greater Sacramento community, and as part of the international Women of Reform Judaism. Within our congregation, WBI supports numerous CBI events, such as the Rosh Hashanah reception, the 2nd Night Seder, the Wine and Food Festival, Happy Hour Havdalah, and a quarterly Rosh Chodesh program. We have also sponsored such speakers as Anat Hoffman, Executive Director of the Israel Religious Action Center and founder of the Women of the Wall, and popular musicians, including Julie Silver and Rick Recht. WBI supports our youth groups with donations to the Confirmation class and BISY. We raise funds for camperships to help our children attend URJ summer camps.
Within the community, WBI supports the Central Downtown Food Basket, Wellspring, St. John’s Program for Real Change (serving Women and Children) and the Mustard Seed School for homeless children.
As part of our affiliation with Women of Reform Judaism, WBI participates in programs such as the YES (Youth, Education and Special Projects) Fund, which provides Reform Jewish institutions and individuals worldwide with the tools necessary for religious, social, and educational growth.
We also sponsor various social events like the Chai Tea, a Fashion Show, Girls Night Out dinners, an annual Art Tour, Mah Jongg and a book club. We invite you to attend a WBI Board meeting to learn more about this dynamic group and give your input as a woman within the Congregation B’nai Israel community.
Please join this organization of dynamic and exciting women and help make a difference within our congregation, the greater Sacramento community and the International community. You can be involved in WBI as little or as much as you like. Download and complete the WBI Membership Form (July 1, 2016 - June 30, 2017)
