Brotherhood

The Temple Brotherhood is active in supporting B'nai Israel in many ways. Sometimes you will find them doing work around the temple grounds . . . . and sometimes you will find them catering luncheons for families celebrating a Bar and Bat Mitzvah.

The CBI Basketball Team Won Another Latke Cup

In December 2007, the CBI Brotherhood and the Mosaic Law Men’s Club met for the 7th Annual Latke Cup Basketball Game.   Before tip-off, both teams met at center court and were led in prayer by Rabbi Reuven Taff.

Our Brotherhood tem took an early lead, but the score was tied 44 apiece at halftime. As the third quarter began, the long-range shots made by Robert guerdon and Avi Glikman of the CBI team challenged the MLC defense.  This opened up the middle as 2-time MVP Jonathan Turner began to score underneath.  Ben Rosen and Ben Gevercer of CBI mad key stops and shot blocks on defense, leading to several fast-break opportunities for Jack Dapkewicz and Ari Hersher.  By the end of the third quarter, CBI was up by 10 points.

As the fourth quarter played out, the flawless ball handling by Jeff Tochterman, Avi Glikman, and Ari Hersher did not allow MLC back into the game.  They were forced to foul to stop the clock.  Our lead widened to 20 points as Mike Hersher made an outside shot.  Scott Claremon, Nate Solov, Jeff Smith, Adam Anapolsky, Michael Gutterman, and Jeff Shulman also contributed to the Brotherhood victory.

After the game, each team voted for someone on the other team to be recognized as the Most Valuable Player.  MLC selected Av I Glikman as our MP, and our team selected Nat Gordon as the MVP from Mosaic Law.  The Latke Cup Trophy remains with B’nai Israel for another year.
